A little support makes a big difference.
From ribbon searches to amazing races and morning teas, The Royce community was a buzz as we came together from 19 – 25 September to celebrate Dementia Action Week. Inspired by Dementia Australia’s national campaign, where ‘A little support makes a big difference’ we thought we would play our part in raising awareness on the near 500,000 Australians currently living with a dementia diagnosis.
The week provided our staff, residents and their loved ones the opportunity to partake in a calendar of fun and inclusive activities designed to increase our understanding of dementia, plus provide education on how we can all keep our brains healthy as we age. Both our Retirement Living and Aged Care residents enjoyed activities such as purple ribbon searches, the Amazing Race, pet therapy classes and ‘Dementia Friend’ programs.
We were also honoured to welcome the teams from Dementia Australia and Noro Music Therapy, who delivered uplifting educational sessions.
Dementia Action Week was also a chance for us to celebrate and recognise our ongoing work with Dementia Australia in becoming a Dementia Friendly Community. As part of this, we are proud to be undertaking a four-step program as an organisation that includes improvements such as staff training, raising awareness, updating signage, and making our documentation more accessible.
