Discover The Gourmet Heart of The Royce

June 18, 2021

The chance to sample cuisine by a chef endorsed by The New York Times doesn’t come along every day.

But for residents at The Royce Retirement & Aged Care Penrith this gastronomic experience is something they can enjoy at their ‘local’. Just imagine, the choice between crispy skin pan-fried barramundi or slow-cooked minestrone with crusty bread—it’s no wonder why residents at The Royce rarely choose to eat anywhere other than their very own Café Royce.

This beautiful, light-filled environment is at the heart of The Royce and has fast become a favourite for residents, the family and friends and the wider public community of Penrith and beyond.

Behind Café Royce is proud local Ross Dobson. From his upbringing in South Penrith, Ross was behind the opening of iconic local hotspots Café at Lewers and The Union Restaurant. A renowned chef and acclaimed author, Ross was recently featured in The New York Times for his celebrated new book Australia: The Cookbook (Phaidon, $65). Lovingly described as a “warm hug”, the book chronicles three periods of Australian cuisine in 350 recipes, each showcasing the rich history and culture of Australian cooking.

Ross now brings his expertise and passion to Café Royce, creating healthy, nutritious and fresh meals and a contemporary dining experience. Guided by his philosophy, “food, and the hospitality associated with sharing the experience is very important to me, it’s a way of life,” he says. “Food makes people happy.”

And that’s certainly the feeling you can expect upon feasting your eyes on Ross’ gourmet menu. From freshly roasted coffee from bespoke Sydney roaster Little Marionette to fresh ricotta hotcakes with banana and creamed honey butter to fragrant lemongrass & honey-grilled pork with rice noodle salad, there’s something to please every palate.

Café Royce is open to the public Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm, and on Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Whether you’re wanting to enjoy a gourmet, restaurant-quality dining or more in the mood for a freshly made pastry or cake, Café Royce will satisfy any craving.

Or why not book in a private tour of the Royce and enjoy a complimentary morning tea and coffee? Tours are available Tuesdays from 10.30am. Call (02) 4744 6000 to secure your spot.
