Music and Memories Brings Joy to The Royce During Dementia Action Week

October 1, 2024

In a heartwarming initiative, The Royce has once again teamed up with Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) and the Talent Development Project (TDP) to continue their impactful “Music and Memories” program. The initiative, first launched last year, connects individuals with dementia to young singer-songwriters, creating original songs based on participants’ life stories. This unique collaboration has proven to be both therapeutic and inspiring for those involved.

Last year, Royce residents Ann and May participated, sharing their life stories with the musicians to create heartfelt songs. Their experience was so well-received that The Royce has once again partnered with NeuRA and TDP to celebrate Dementia Action Week in a special way this year.

A standout moment in this year’s program was the participation of Royce Simmons, who collaborated with TDP graduate Sam Green to produce a deeply personal song reflecting his own life journey. The moving tribute was shared with the community during a special event.

The event not only featured these touching musical pieces but also hosted an insightful panel discussion on dementia. Attendees, including residents and their families, had the opportunity to learn about dementia from both research and lived-experience perspectives, while also exploring the powerful connection between music and memory.
