Fostering Intergenerational Bonds Through Music and Activities at The Royce

October 18, 2024

To bridge generational gaps, The Royce embarked on a 10-week intergenerational study with Noro Music Therapy about a year ago. This collaborative study explored the impact of music therapy on our independent living residents of varying ages, focusing on fostering mutual respect and understanding between children and the residents. The primary objective was to see how shared experiences through music could enhance the emotional and social well-being of both groups.

Recognising the programs value, The Royce aims to further develop this initiative with Noro Music Therapy in the future. Following its initial success, we extended the program to our Manor residents, allowing them to experience the benefits as well.

Recently, the residents of The Manor were treated to a special visit from the students of St Nicholas of Myra Primary School. The day was filled with joyful and interactive activities that included painting, pizza-making, and trivia. These activities not only provided a creative outlet but also fostered connection, laughter, and learning across generations.

Residents who took part in the day’s events expressed how much they enjoyed the company of the young students. Some noted that it felt as though they had family visiting, as the interactions made them feel valued and appreciated.

The experience was universally positive, leaving a lasting impact on both the students and the residents. The program continues to grow, and we look forward to further opportunities to build meaningful connections between the generations.
